CCAG Newsletter - 15 April 2003
Whilst it may appear to have "gone quiet" of late there has been much going on behind the scenes as it were.
We can confirm Malcolm Kerby's invitation to a meeting with the Minister of State, Elliot Morley MP in London on the 13th May 03 to put the case for Happisburgh directly. This can only be viewed as a major step forward and we are gratefull to our local member Norman Lamb MP not only for the hard work on our behalf but also for arranging the meeting with the Minister.
Today as you may well see in the press we have hosted Norman Lamb MP, Andrew Duff Lib- Dem MEP among others that they may see first hand for themselves the true state of the erosion problem.
There seems to have been some confusion today over the report which has been broadcast throughout the day by our local BBC News programme Look- East which seemed to suggest that the erosion at Happisburgh has halted, this is most emphatically not so. The small amount of rock armour supplied and put in place by North Norfolk District Council over the Christmas and New Year period as a TEMPORARY measure in the hope that we could survive the winter and give some breathing space whilst a more permanent solution is sought, has indeed fulfilled that intention thanks to a benign winter weather wise. As yet it remains untested in severe weather conditions. That is indeed something to be thankfull for however it is very much a temporary measure offering only limited short term benefit. The fight continues for a proper, effective long term solution!!
We shall keep you informed of our progress.
