Civic Award for Malcolm Kerby
02 October 2005
CCAG co-ordinator Malcolm Kerby was presented with a civic award at a full meeting of North Norfolk District Council last week.
John Sweeney, Council Chairman presented the award, commending him for setting up the Coastal Concern Action Group in 1999. The campaign has brought Happisburgh to the forefront of Coastal Management debates on an international basis, and this is mostly through Malcolm's dedication and determination.
"Malcolm is a classic example of an ordinary bloke who put his head above the parapet," said Mr Sweeney during the presentation. "I am sure he will keep up the pressure for years to come and I would like to take this opportunity of recognising his efforts."
Accepting his award, Mr Kerby said it reflected the efforts of many people. "I am very proud to accept this award, which is not for me but for the CCAG and for the people of Happisburgh," he said. "There is a long way to go on our travels but that doesn't mean we are going to give up." He went on to thank his family for their support, and the officers and members of the Council.
Also attending the presentation were several members of Malcolm's family, friends and fellow campaigners. All who know what Malcolm has put in to this campaign will join us in congratulating him on a very well deserved commendation.
