Lessingham Sunday Youth Club Fundraiser
06 November 2008
The boys and girls that attend the Lessingham Sunday Youth Club decided in the summer that they wanted to raise some funds for two concerns which were close to their hearts, Coastal Concern Action Group and the RNLI. To this end, they arranged for invitations to be sent out with the Parish Magazine and local newspapers in Happisburgh, Lessingham, Hempstead and Eccles, inviting the inhabitants to come to a barbecue last Saturday, 27th September, at Lessingham Village Hall.
Approximately 70 people came and contributed by means of a raffle; tombola; guess the
number of sweets in a jar and other fund raising items.
The barbecue was also supported by Malcolm Kerby from CCAG, who was on hand to answer questions relating to the local erosion and Mr Cox of the RNLI, who bought some RNLI items for sale.
Malcolm Kerby said afterwards "I think it's great that they are taking on board that we have a fight on our hands and want to play their part in it. Something which pleases me enormously and gives me good reason to believe our coastal future could well be safe in their hands if they are prepared to fight and work for what they believe is right."
At the end of the day, the boys and girls raised £50 each for their two chosen causes.
Update: 3rd November 2008
On Sunday 3rd November 2008 the children presented a cheque to CCAG's Malcolm Kerby at Happisburgh
Lifeboat Station and then went on to make a similar donation to the RNLI. The efforts of all
concerned were much appreciated by both organisations.
