APPG Conference: Coastal Communities at Risk

16 May 2009

Coastal Communities at Risk

6th July, 2pm to 5pm, Westminster, London

A half day conference of the All Party Parliamentary Group Coastal and Marine, and Coastal Concern Action Group. (Venue: Institution of Civil Engineers, 1 Great George St, Westminster – on the corner of Parliament Square).

As the second round of shoreline management planning has progressed the issue of adaptation to climate change has come to the fore. At the core of this ongoing debate is to what extent community and individual needs are accommodated in adaptation policy.

This issue of social justice has been championed by the Coastal Concern Action Group from Happisburgh in North Norfolk. The strong lobbying on this issue has stimulated the consideration of a wider range of adaptation solutions by Defra and others.

This event will consider the social justice argument from the receiving end, with speakers from three of the affected communities outlining their situations. In response the Minister responsible for flood and erosion management, Huw Irranca-Davies MP, will make a statement from the Government perspective.

Four speakers follow to examine in more detail some of the solutions proposed. Full details will be released shortly.

This is a small venue with limited capacity. BOOK NOW!
