Letter from Malcolm Kerby to Elliot Morley MP, DEFRA

06 November 2003

Re. Coastal Erosion. Happisburgh.

Dear Mr Morley,

In the aftermath of your recent comments re. Happisburgh and my receipt of further correspondence from the Head of Flood Management Division on your behalf, I would invite yourself and your senior aides to a public meeting to be held in St. Mary's Church Happisburgh on Thursday 20th November 2003 at 19.30.

I feel sure the subject of your criteria and point score system will be discussed. Many people in North Norfolk feel that system is unfair and unjust.

I would allege that your criteria and point score system is not essential, is patently unworkable and is discriminatory in many ways and is therefore not lawful.

It is a system which favours wealth, not need and of course, as we all know, it is not based in statute.

The people of Happisburgh require you to explain in the fullest detail and justify why your department is actively discriminating against North Norfolk as a whole and Happisburgh in particular.

If you cannot attend the meeting on the 20th November. Please give us a date and time when you can attend and we shall make the necessary arrangements.

Yours Sincerely,

M.R.Kerby
Co-ordinator Coastal Concern Action Group.
