PROPOSED EXTRACTION OF MARINE AGGREGATE FROM AREA 401/2 (GREAT YARMOUTH): RENEWAL OF EXISTING LICENCE PROVISION OF FURTHER ENVIRONMENTAL INFORMATION

Hanson Aggregates Marine Ltd (HAML) has applied for a Government View to continue to extract marine aggregate (sand and gravel) from Area 401/2, approximately 22km East of Great Yarmouth. The application is for the renewaI of an existing licence for this area which is set to expire on 31st March 2006. Initially, HAML wished to continue to extract a maximum of 2 million tonnes per annum over a 15 year period. However, following consultation HAML have agreed to reduce the term of the licence period to coincide with the expiry of other licences in the region in 2013.

Public consultation for this proposal and on the Environmental Statement and Coastal Impact Study, was carried out between 11th February and 21st April 2005 and allowed 12 weeks for responses from consultees, as required by the Interim Government View Procedure. A further 3 weeks was allocated to coIisultees to send comments.

Further environmental information is now available in relation to the Environmental Statement which has already been provided for this application. The additional information comprises a set of Technical Notes (TNs) that address.the' following issues:

TN2 - Sustainability

TN3 - Nature Conservation

TN4 - Fisheries

TN5 - Cumulative Effects

TN6 - Mitigation and Monitoring

This further environmental information will be available for inspection at the following local Council Offices for a period of 6 weeks from Friday 29th July 2005.

The application will be considered by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) under the Interim Government View Procedure. A favourable Government View will enable the CompanY to apply to the Crown Estate for a continuation of the current Production Licence.
