SMP Consultation Response Outcome

This document is the response to the concerns and issues raised by all who took part in the Shoreline Management Plan (SMP) consultation. It was prepared by the consultant who prepared the SMP itself and it is intended to be the response of the Client Steering Group (CSG) - those who presented the SMP.

Our local authorities' members on the CSG have no option but to receive this response, but it is up to each individually whether they agree and / or accept it.

It is a foregone conclusion that Defra and its quangos will automatically accept the response. The big question is: will the local authorities?

Almost 2,500 of us argued so ably against the proposed SMP over a year ago. Since then, they've sorted, analysed and categorised our submissions and ignored them. There is no intention to change the policies conatined within the SMP, so this whole matter is no further forward than it was a year ago.

This is the time where we discover whether local authorities listen to the views and aspirations of the council tax payers or will bend to central government pressure.

Watch this space.
